Workshops

River North Chicago workshops offer the opportunity to study with Artistic Director Frank Chaves, Assistant to the Artistic Director Sara Bibik, River North Chicago company members, River North Chicago alumni, and guest faculty including Sherry Zunker, River North Chicago's co-artistic director emerita, and Ballet Mistresses Claire Bataille and Laura Wade.

The Company hosts workshops throughout the year in our home studios in Chicago as well as in studios in the surrounding suburbs, offering a professional environment, an average class size of 30 dancers, and a focus on individualized instruction.

One-Day Workshops 2008

One-day workshops, designed for dancers aged 12 and up, are a great way to introduce yourself to a River North Chicago workshop experience or to keep up your River North Chicago style in between summer programs. 

This year, River North Chicago Dance Company is pleased to offer a three-workshop series that includes a suburban location.  Each of these workshops will run from 10am – 5pm:

One-day workshops offer a full-day schedule of classes taught by River North Chicago’s acclaimed workshop faculty, including jazz technique, ballet technique, company repertoire, and acting, style, & expression.

The one-day workshops also include a live audition opportunity for the Summer 2008 Intensive program, July 30 – August 9.  Dancers will be observed throughout the day for possible acceptance into the program.  Interested parties will be asked to sign in as such at the beginning of the day and will be notified of their results via mail by April 28.  (Note: video auditions for the Summer Intensive will also be accepted and are due on April 11.  See the Summer Programs section below for more details on video requirements). 

Cost for the one-day workshops is $90 for one, $170 for two, and $240 for all three.  Click here for the one-day workshop registration form.  

Summer Programs 2008

RivNoDance Workshop, July 27-28
Created for intermediate and advanced dancers aged 11-16 who want an energetic, fun weekend of dance, the RivNoDance Workshop offers three classes per day (11am-4pm) in jazz, ballet, and acting, style, & expression.

Training guideline: appropriate for dancers who study for 4.5 - 7 class hours or less per week (does not include rehearsal time).

Cost: $125 and below

Summer Workshop, July 30-August 3
Tailored to advanced, pre-professional, and professional dancers aged 13 and up who want an exciting, detailed, and inspiring learning experience, the Summer Workshop offers:

• 4 classes per day (10am-5pm) in jazz, ballet, company repertoire, yoga, Pilates, and acting, style, & expression
• A special River North Chicago company performance in The Ruth Page Center Theater on Friday, August 1
• Lunch discussions for workshop participants and parents with the River North Chicago faculty (subjects TBA; summer 2007 seminars included Nutrition, Injury Prevention, Dance in College, Professional Possibilities, and “How I Did It”)

Training guideline: appropriate for dancers who study for 7.5 class hours or more per week (does not include rehearsal time).

Cost: $395 and below

Summer Intensive, July 30-August 9
Reserved for pre-professional and professional dancers accepted by audition only (live, at our winter and spring one-day workshops, or video), the Summer Intensive is a chance to live a week in the life of a company member, taking daily class, rehearsing, and performing River North Chicago repertoire in an informal performance in The Ruth Page Center Theater on August 11. Includes participation in the 5-day Summer Workshop, July 30-August 3 (see above for details on the Summer Workshop). 

Cost (if accepted): $650 (includes participation in the 5-day Summer Workshop, July 30-August 3)

Application fee: $25 (will be applied toward $650 tuition if auditionee is accepted)

River North Chicago is a national touring company with a repertoire that requires stylistic range with strong jazz and ballet technique.  Ability to relocate to Chicago and travel a must.  Salaried pay.  Contract length and number of open company positions TBD.

For all auditions, please be prepared for a ballet combination (no Pointe) and jazz combination followed by River North Chicago repertoire. Warm up not provided. No fee. Please bring headshot and resume.  ***Pre-audition emails of headshots and resumes will not be accepted, and no phone calls, please.***

Most of RNCDC’s workshops are held at the company’s home studios in The Ruth Page Center, located at 1016 N. Dearborn Parkway in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast. The Center is bordered by Maple St. on the north and Oak St. on the south; it is one block east of Clark St. and one block west of State St.

The Center is accessible by the CTA Red Line (Clark & Division stop) and the Clark, Broadway, and Division bus lines (click here for the Chicago Transit Authority website), there is limited parking in the lot adjacent to the building, as well as parking garages and metered spaces in the neighborhood.
