River North Chicago workshops offer the opportunity to study with Artistic Director Frank Chaves, Assistant to the Artistic Director Sara Bibik, River North Chicago company members, River North Chicago alumni, and guest faculty including Sherry Zunker, River North Chicago's co-artistic director emerita, and Ballet Mistresses Claire Bataille and Laura Wade.

One Day Workshops 2012

Geared towards students aged 11 and above who are either intermediate, advanced, pre-professional, professional dancers, the One Day Workshops offer 4 classes per day, including ballet, jazz, company repertoire, and acting, style, & expression taught by River North Chicago staff and former/current company members. Class sizes are limited to 30 students to ensure individualized instruction. One Day workshops will also provide an opportunity to audition for the 2012 Summer Intensives. If you are using the One Day Workshops to audition for 8 or 10 Day Summer Intensives, bring a picture (school picture is fine) and bio/resume. One Day Workshops are appropriate for students who are intermediate, advanced, pre-professional or professional and study 4.5 or more class hours per week.

Summer Programs 2012

3 Day RivNoDance, Saturday, July 28-Monday, July 30

Created for intermediate and advanced dancers aged 10-17 who want an energetic, three day dance workshop, the RivNoDance Workshop offers four classes per day (10am-4:30pm) in jazz, ballet, and acting, style, & expression.

Training guideline: appropriate for dancers who study for 4.5 - 7 class hours or less per week (does not include rehearsal time).

Cost: $290 and below

5 Day Summer Workshop, Wednesday, August 1-Sunday, August 5

Tailored to advanced, pre-professional, and professional dancers aged 13 through adult who want an exciting, detailed, and inspiring learning experience, the Summer Workshop offers:

• 4 classes per day (10am-5pm) in jazz, ballet, company repertoire, yoga, Pilates, and acting, style, & expression
• A special River North Chicago company performance in The Ruth Page Center Theater
• Lunch discussions for workshop participants and parents with the River North Chicago faculty (subjects TBD; Summer Workshops included: PBS Documentary: Every Dancer Has A Story, Nutrition, Injury Prevention, Dance in College, “How I Did It”, and Dance Professions)
• Producers' Society Scholarship: A full tuition scholarship to the 2013 Summer Workshop will be awarded to a selected participant of the 2012 Summer Workshop. This merit based scholarship, funded by RNCDC Producers' Society, is given based on the student's capacity to dance with openness, awareness, technical ability, professionalism, and joy; and will be awarded on the last day of the workshop during the lunch lecture.

8 Day Teen Intensive, Saturday July 28-Sunday August 5

The 8 Day Teen Intensive is a brand new program reserved for pre-professional teen dancers ages 13-17 accepted by audition only (One-Day Workshops, open auditions, or video). Dancers will take seven hours of class per day, including ballet technique, jazz technique, repertoire, yoga, and partnering. In addition, teens will take company class at least one day, see an RNDC performance, attend lunch lectures, and participate in a showing on the last day. Merit scholarships are available.

Cost (if accepted): $675 full program.

10 Day College/Professional Intensive, Wednesday August 1-Saturday, August 11

Reserved for pre-professional and professional dancers accepted by audition only (at our winter and spring one-day workshops, auditions, or video), the College/Professional Intensive is a chance to live a week in the life of a company member, taking daily class, rehearsing, and performing River North Chicago repertoire in an informal performance. Includes participation in the 5-day Summer Workshop, August 1-5 (see above for details on the Summer Workshop). 

Cost (if accepted): $825 (includes participation in the 5-day Summer Workshop, August 1-5)

Auditions are for company jobs, apprenticeships, and for 8 Day and 10 Day intensives.

River North Dance Chicago will be holding an open call audition seeking experienced M/F dancers for potential employment for the 2012-2013 Season.

River North Dance Chicago is an international touring company that requires advanced jazz and ballet technique. River North Dance Chicago boasts an eclectic repertoire from a variety of nationally and internationally renowned choreographers and auditioning dancers should exhibit versatile stylistic range. RNDC offers salaried pay and employee benefits. Contract length and number of open company positions TBD. Ability to relocate to Chicago and travel is required for Company members.

The audition will begin with a ballet combination (no Pointe), followed by a jazz combination and River North Dance Chicago repertoire. Warm up not provided, and there is no fee to audition. Please bring headshot and resume. ***Pre-audition emails of headshots and resumes will not be accepted, and no phone calls, please***

If you are attending a workshop at RNCDC’s home studios in Chicago, see below. If you are attending one of RNCDC’s off-site workshops, check the specific information for that workshop for a link to the location’s website.

Most of RNCDC’s workshops are held at the company’s home studios in The Ruth Page Center, located at 1016 N. Dearborn Parkway in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast. The Center is bordered by Maple St. on the north and Oak St. on the south; it is one block east of Clark St. and one block west of State St.

The Center is accessible by the CTA Red Line (Clark & Division stop) and the Clark, Broadway, and Division bus lines (click here for the Chicago Transit Authority website), there is limited parking in the lot adjacent to the building, (for a fee of $5 for a 4 hour time slot) as well as parking garages and metered spaces in the neighborhood.
